Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology

The program educational objectives for the BSc in Mechanical Engineering Technology are:

  • To educate our students in an environment that enhances their intellectual capabilities as well as improves their attitudes towards engineering technology as a career.
  • To teach, in accordance with an appropriate curriculum and in a manner that prepares our students to be lifelong learners, participants in professional organizations and to be successful in industry.
  • To provide knowledge and skills that will enhance the education to enrich the quality of life, and contribute towards the solution of problems in industries.
  • To prepare to work collaboratively and effectively in various engineering and manufacturing industries.
  • To provide with the skills necessary for effective communication and to develop their ability to function as members of teams who can respect diversity of opinions, address contemporary aspects of work and acquire an appropriate vision of their profession.
  • To provide with a solid foundation in Mechanical Engineering Technology that prepares them for lifelong careers and professional growth.
  • To provide with the ability to perform technical analysis, specification and implementation of product quality in the context of engineering technology.
  • To equip with the necessary theoretical mechanical engineering technology background that can enable them to analyze and adapt to changing requirements in the job market, and/or to further their education.
  • To instill the technical, communication, and character skills that will prepare them for supervisory roles in industry.
  • To provide the knowledge, skills and attitude that enables them to make responsible choices in their future careers.

The expected MET program outcomes are that the student will:

  1. be able to apply principles of mathematics and applied science, to perform technical calculations and solve technical problems of the types commonly encountered in mechanical engineering technology careers. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes a, b, f);
  2. be able to demonstrate the ability to identify, formulate, and present creative solutions to technical problems in a variety of areas within the broad field of mechanical engineering technology. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcome d);
  3. be able to function competently in a laboratory setting, making measurements, operating technical equipment, critically examining experimental results, and properly reporting experimental results, including the potential for process improvement. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes a, b, c, f, g);
  4. be able to use modern computational tools for technical problem solving, including scientific calculators, computers and appropriate software. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes a, b, f);
  5. be able to demonstrate a broad basic education and knowledge of contemporary issues in a global and societal context, as necessary to develop professional and ethical responsibility, including responsibility to employers and to society at large. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes i, j);
  6. be able to recognize the need for life-long learning and continuous improvement of mechanical engineering technology skills (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcome h);
  7. be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively and function effectively with members of multi-disciplinary teams and with other workers in an industrial setting, including those from different backgrounds. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes e, g, j);
  8. be able to demonstrate a commitment to quality, punctuality and continuous improvement. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes j, k); and
  9. be able to demonstrate ability in the technical, communication, and character skills that will prepare them for supervisory roles or other, in industry (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes g, i, j).
