Mechanical Maintenance Technology Program

This prepares the students as assistant engineers in the design, development, operation, control and performance testing of rotating equipment and heat engines MMTP Objectives The following Mechanical Maintenance Technology program objectives have been approved by the Mechanical Engineering Technology Department.

The program educational objectives are:

  • To educate young Saudi students in an environment that enhances their intellectual capabilities as well as improves their attitudes towards hands on work practices.
  • To teach (using an appropriate curriculum) in a manner that prepares our students to be lifelong learners and also to be successful in industry.
  • To provide knowledge and skills that will enhance the education of students, enrich their quality of life, and contribute to the solutions of problems in Saudi Arabian’s industry.
  • To prepare students to qualify and be capable of functioning as professionals in mechanical maintenance technology disciplines such as maintenance technicians, system control technicians, testing of rotating equipment technicians, troubleshooting and operation technicians, and heat engines and power plant technicians.
  • To provide young Saudis with the basic skills necessary for effective communication and to develop their ability to function as members of teams who can respect diversity of opinions and acquire an appropriate vision of their profession.
  • To provide students with a solid foundation in Mechanical Maintenance Technology that prepares them for lifelong careers and professional growth.
  • To provide students with the ability to perform technical analysis, specification, and implementation of product quality in the context of hands on training.
  • To equip students with the necessary theoretical Mechanical Maintenance technology background that can enable them to analyze and adapt to changing requirements in the job market, and/or to further their education.
  • To instill within our students using counseling and academic advising, the technical, communication, and character skills that will prepare them for supervisory roles in industry.
  • To provide our students with the knowledge, skills and attitude that enables them to make responsible choices in their future careers.

The expected program outcomes are that the student will:

  1. be able to apply principles of mathematics and applied science, to perform technical calculations and solve technical problems of the types commonly encountered in maintenance engineering technology careers. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes a, b, f);
  2. be able to demonstrate the ability to identify, formulate, and present creative solutions to technical problems in a variety of areas within the broad field of maintenance technology. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcome d);
  3. be able to function competently in a laboratory setting, making measurements, operating technical equipment, critically examining experimental results, and properly reporting experimental results, including the potential for process improvement. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes a, b, c, f, g);
  4. be able to use modern computational tools for technical problem solving, including scientific calculators, computers and appropriate software. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes a, b, f);
  5. be able to demonstrate a broad basic education and knowledge of contemporary issues in a global and societal context, as necessary to develop professional and ethical responsibility, including responsibility to employers and to society at large. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes i, j);
  6. be able to recognize the need for life-long learning and continuous improvement of mechanical maintenance technology skills (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcome h);
  7. be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively and function effectively with members of multi-disciplinary teams and with other workers in an industrial setting, including those from different backgrounds. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes e, g, j);
  8. be able to demonstrate a commitment to quality, punctuality and continuous improvement. (Consistent with ABET Criterion 3 Outcomes j, k); and
  9. be able to demonstrate ability in the technical, communication, and character skills that will prepare them for supervisory roles or other, in industry.
