The purpose of this program is to prepare students to work as Computer hardware technicians, Computer Network technicians, laboratory technicians, Computer programmers, Computer operators, or to assist the computer hardware engineer to troubleshoot and maintain computers. Also they can assist the software engineers/analyst in the design, development, testing and validation of computer software.
The following are the approved program educational objectives of the Information and Computer Technology program:
- Provide the Information and Computer Technology students with the necessary skills that enable our graduates to pursue rewarding professional careers, higher studies, and lifelong learning.
- Provide students with foundation in the principles of science, mathematics, statistics, computer science and technology that can be applied for problem solving.
- Provide students with theories, techniques, development processes, and tools used to develop computer applications and solve problems in computer science.
- Prepare students to be capable of functioning as professionals in computer science and technology fields such as computer hardware technicians, network technicians, laboratory technicians, computer programmers, and assist the software engineer and system analyst in the design, development and testing of computer software.
- Prepare students to work and communicate effectively, either independently or in teams.
- Provide students with basic concepts, emerging technologies, and contemporary issues relating to the societal impacts of computing.
- Develop social skills such as discipline, punctuality tolerance, co-operation and trustworthiness all necessary for real work.
- Provide clear understanding of professional and ethical considerations related to computing.
Program Outcomes:
Upon completion of the Information and Computer Technology program, the student will:
- have practical knowledge of basic computer application, programming languages, computer networks, database, hardware troubleshooting, software systems and software engineering.
- be able to apply the mathematics, applied science and programming skills to problem solving.
- be able to identify, formulate, and present creative solutions to technical problems in a variety of areas such as hardware and network.
- be able to apply the theories, standards, models, and procedures to the software development, testing, and maintenance.
- be able to analyze the impact of information technology as individuals, organizations, and society.
- be committed to ethical, legal, security, and global policy issues in information technology field.
- be able to work in multi-disciplinary teams and communicate effectively.
