History

The department was established in 1989 with a handful of students for its Process Operation and Chemical Analysis Technology Program (POCATP). Within the past two decades, there has been a manifold increase in the student's enrollment for the Associate degree program. The BSc program in Chemical Engineering Technology (CHETP) was introduced in 2005. The programs aim to prepare process operator/chemical analysis technicians and chemical engineering technologists who have quite high market demand in the chemical process industry, specifically in petroleum and petrochemical based industries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dedicated faculty members drawn globally, enthusiastic students, well-equipped laboratories, intensive interaction with the industrial fraternity and above all an impeccable administrative back-up are the catalysts behind this envious growth.

Introduction

The CHET Department presents instructional programs of extraordinary quality which are well suited primarily to cater to the growing needs in the area of process industries, in particular petroleum, petrochemical and allied industries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Alumni of this prestigious department are well placed in many of the reputed chemical industries in and around Yanbu industrial city such as Saudi ARAMCO, SAMRAF, YANPET, MARAFIQ, SAFRA etc. A good number of the alumni also successfully secured admissions for higher studies in reputed universities and institutes in the UK and USA.

Currently the department is planning to offer new programs at the Associate degree level and initiate research activities that will dovetail with the requirements of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is growing through a fast pace of industrialization.

The Chemical Engineering Technology Department offers an Associate degree in Process Operation and Chemical Analysis Technology Program (POCATP) and a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering Technology Program (CHETP). Both programs are focusing on the basics of chemistry and chemical engineering technology. In addition to the theoretical and laboratory based courses, students are also exposed to industry linked training programs.
